Pre-Order Supercharged:

‘Make It All Right’ is classic The Offspring, with huge punk rock riffs, massive production and a mountain sized chorus. Lyrically though, it talks about how it feels to have your “partner in crime” by your side, the person who makes you feel like you can do anything and give you confidence things will work out: “And you make it all right, And it’s gonna be fine, We’re like partners in crime, And you make it all right.”

In talking about the track and the upcoming release of ‘SUPERCHARGED’ frontman Dexter Holland said: “We wanted this record to have pure energy – from the start to the finish! That’s why we called it SUPERCHARGED. From the height of our aspirations to the depths of our struggles, we talk about it all on this record…in a way that celebrates the life that we share and where we are now. Our single “Make It All Right” is a great example of this because it talks about the people in our lives who make us feel strong when we are feeling low – our partners in crime who make us feel all right.”

“The album was recorded in three different locations this time around: Maui, Vancouver, and our home studio in Huntington Beach, and together with our producer Bob Rock everything came out awesome. I feel like this is the best we have ever sounded! We’ve been rocking out and head-banging to it for months! And we can’t wait for you guys to hear it!”

Live wise the band will be in the UK next week performing main stage Download Festival on Saturday June 15th, their first UK performance since last years headline slot at the Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds and Hatfield.

Last week, The Offspring performed to a massive crowd at Napa’s BottleRock Festival performing a career-spanning fan favourites set, and were joined by a very special guest – global superstar Ed Sheeran. Sheeran – who is a longtime fan of The Offspring – surprised the crowd and performed “Million Miles Away” from the band’s Conspiracy of One album (released in 2000). Earlier in the day Sheeran rehearsed with the band backstage- even showing off his Offspring tattoo inspired by Conspiracy of One- before joining them onstage.

As fans erupted as Sheeran walked onstage, Dexter said to the crowd: “Ed told us that one of our records was one of his first cd’s he ever bought when was a kid and that really meant a lot to us and we thought wow we’d love to have you come out and join us onstage. We’re gonna play a song he wanted to play: “Million Miles Away.” See performance HERE and Sheeran’s post on the iconic performance HERE.

Earlier in the day the band joined Alton Brown at the William Sonoma Stage where they used some of Dexter Holland’s Gringo Bandito Hot Sauce to spice up some wings!

Then just a few days later, on June 1st, the band performed a special sold-out hometown arena show in Anaheim, CA for “The Offspring: 30th Anniversary of SMASH and Honda Center” concert-celebrating over three decades of their iconic 6x Platinum album SMASH and the historic Honda Center. The band performed SMASH in its entirety plus some fan favourites. See footage from the show.

Continuing on the road the band are performing overseas at numerous festivals as well as Inkcarceration Festival in Mansfield, OH on July 19th, Louder Than Life Festival on September 26th and more in North America. See full tour dates at www.offspring.com/tour.

A Bit About The Offspring:

The Offspring is an American rock band from Garden Grove, California, formed in 1984. Originally formed under the name Manic Subsidal, the band’s lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dexter Holland, lead guitarist Noodles, bassist Todd Morse, drummer Brandon Pertzborn and percussionist Jonah Nimoy. Over the course of their longstanding career, they have released ten studio albums. The Offspring is often credited—alongside fellow California bands Green Day and Rancid—for reviving mainstream interest in rock in the 1990s. They have sold over 45 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling rock bands in history.

How can a certified metal guy explain to the reader how this album has gone from being the enemy to a close friend?

It started many years ago with the release of the band’s debut record, Core (Atlantic Records). The vitriol that flowed through my veins over this record made blood run cold and my heart nearly seize at seeing the MTV Headbanger’s Ball (wait what?) video of the song “Plush” being performed acoustic.

But that Sex Type Thing song sure did hit didn’t it?

Time passes, and Stone Temple Pilots becomes one of the biggest bands in the world back in an era when this could still happen on a debut record, much as it happened with The Doors. Look for parallels between these bands as the article continues.

In 1994, one of the greatest movies of that era, The Crow, portrayed as an actor’s debut that actually wasn’t was released and due in no small part to Brandon Lee’s on-set death, it becomes the blockbuster of the summer. Your friend and humble narrator even took it in at The Union Station Cinema, back when it was still a going concern.

On that soundtrack was a song called “Big Emtpy.” Another song by hated on by some, but oddly worked for this author. Can one really hate a band if one deeply enjoys 50% of the singles they release?

In 1994, there was no confusion in my mind, because this band was the enemy. A blood enemy. STP was Grunge, and I was metal. They were the Romulans to my Klingon. They were tricksy and I was honor.

The next year, as this author was working at the Nine Inch Nails concert, another blood enemy, he forged a friendship with a kindred spirit in the hallway as the concert was going when they should have been working. Should the Star Trek analogy need to be continued, consider Trent Reznor and his gang of miscreants as the Ferengi.

He told me about STP and how they rock harder than anyone and they were wrongfully considered to be a Pearl Jam rip-off. Well, as long as we’re going to Denny’s after work and getting some mozz sticks, whatever you say, Mark. The friend’s words were dismissed out of hand. Why listen to the music on the full album? Why admit to liking something you like?

Oh, the gatekeeping that was being done here.

Three decades later, that 18-year-old man who would not consider Purple, who got angry when KSHE 95 played “Interstate Love Song,” is listening to that song now, but there’s no anger, only tingles.

“Vaseline” with its decidedly nonsense lyrics paints an imagist picture that’s worthy of the previously mentioned band featuring Jim Morrison.

To paraphrase one of the greatest fictional philosophers of a time yet to come, Bender Bending Rodriguez, this album transcends genres as it reinvents them. The weaving in and out of Rock, Blues, Americana, and yeah, some gr

unge too, will keep this album fresh for generations to come.
