According to Jakob Rodgers of the Bay Area News Group, the Oakland Police Department responded early Saturday to reports of a home invasion in East Oakland. At the same time, officers were informed that the suspect, later identified as Martin, was experiencing a “medical emergency.”

The police report indicates that a “brief struggle” occurred during the encounter. After being taken into custody, Martin became unresponsive. Paramedics administered medical aid at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
Despite efforts to revive him, Martin was later pronounced dead.
