Michael van Gerwen has hit out at Ricardo Pietreczko following the German’s World Darts Championship exit.
Mighty Mike, who cruised past Stephen Bunting to book his place in the quarter-finals, thought Pietreczko ought to have beaten Luke Humphries, one of the pre-tournament favourites, and accused the 29-year-old of fluffing his lines.
Speaking to reporters after his third-successive whitewash, Van Gerwen stressed the importance of ruthlessness at the oche and ripped into Pietreczko for not having enough “balls” to finish Humphries off. He said: “Humphries should have lost that game to be fair.
“What’s his name again? Pietreczko. He doesn’t have balls at all. That’s the way it is. You need to make sure you focus yourself and on your game, and whoever comes in your path you hav
e to beat them.”
