The greatest champion of all time was invited to the inauguration of the Dainese museum in Vicenza, alongside Valentino Rossi.
The famous Dainese company inaugurated a museum retracing its history since 1972 in the heart of Vicenza, province of origin of its creator Lino Dainese. Suits, helmets, but also studies of damaged equipment or even space suits, visitors will find everything that the brand has created in forty-six years of existence.
Many pilots were invited to this event like Valentino Rossi which has Giacomo Agostini. The immense Italian champion was able to admire the combinations of drivers he knew well like Kenny Roberts or Barry Sheene.
If all the current protections did not exist when these men were racing, the Italian recognizes that he would have liked to have had some: “Having the airbag would have been nice. I have seen many drivers leave the circuits on a stretcher. Today the airbag plays a big role. This is an important innovation. »
He also looked back on the worst fall of his career: “It was at the Sachsenring. I was going at 240km/h and I was first, twenty seconds ahead of second, but I slipped on a puddle of oil. I was very lucky that day. »
“Ago” took the opportunity to tell an anecdote about the champion of spectacular falls and his catches, Marc Márquez: “One day I told him that if I had fallen every time he fell, I would have died five or six times already!” »
At almost 76 years old (he will celebrate it on June 15), Giacomo Agostini now enjoys doing some demonstrations and is content with the events to which he is invited: “I continue to ride a road bike, I did it today. But running, no. We need to talk to Valentino about this, he’s the one who’s in great shape! »
