Luka Doncic Signs Historic $207 Million Extension To Remain With Dallas Mavericks
, Luka Doncic agreed to sign the richest rookie extension contract in NBA history to remain with the Dallas Mavericks. His new deal will net him some $207 million over five years when his extension kicks in after the final year of his rookie contract. Doncic and the Mavericks finalized the deal Tuesday morning.
Doncic is the first player in league history eligible for a designated supermax rookie extension. He qualifies thanks to his two selections to the First Team All-NBA roster in his sophomore and third seasons. Doncic is 22 years old.
“I never imagined this happening,” Doncic said at a press conference Tuesday. “I was only dreaming of playing in the NBA, and now I can sign an extension with the Dallas Mavericks for five more years, which I never had a doubt of it. I always wanted to sign this.”
The contract contains a player option for the final season. Should Doncic choose to exercise it, he could become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026. Doing so, however, would mean forfeiting a salary of $47.1 million for the 2026-27 season.
