Few people know that the leader of The Offspring, Dexter Holland, is a very well-educated person. In addition to his musical activity, Holland graduated from college and even earned a PhD in molecular biology! Now the artist has been invited to encourage the next generation of future scientists to learn – on May 25, he gave a commencement speech at the University of Southern California.

Dexter Holland is best known as the leader of The Offspring. The band was formed in 1984 and gained wider recognition with the release of the album Smash (1994). It was from this album that the singles Come Out and Play and Self Esteem come from . The band is credited, alongside Green Day and Rancid, with reviving the punk rock movement in the ’90s. The Offspring have released a total of ten studio albums – the band’s latest album was released in April last year. The album Let the Bad Times Roll was released by Concord Records and was the band’s first release in nine years. In total, the group has sold almost 40 million albums worldwide

Few people know that Dexter Holland’s ambitions do not end with music. Holland graduated from the University of Southern California, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology, and a master’s degree, and in 2017, a Ph.D. in molecular biology! His research focused on the HIV virus from the perspective of molecular biology.

Dexter Holland delivers commencement address to Keck School of Medicine of USC graduates
As a doctor of science, Dexter Holland was invited by the University of Southern California to give the commencement address. In his speech, Dr. Holland spoke about his love of music and science. He also encouraged the students to continue their efforts by pointing out that they live in a unique time when medical technology is extremely advanced and can lead to breakthroughs in science.
