Chelsea could be set to benefit from two other Premier League clubs agreeing a huge transfer this week. The Blues have endured a chaotic last 48 hours in the ongoing trading period with a deal for Samu Omorodion collapsing at the final hurdle which resulted in talks starting to permanently sign Joao Felix.
A marquee sale is still needed for the Spanish club before the end of August though, and it could be Felix that is the player sold to fulfil that requirement. Alongside the potential arrival of the Portugal international, Victor Osimhen could still arrive on a season-long loan from Napoli.
On Monday, Newcastle submitted their third offer to Crystal Palace in an attempt to sign Marc Guehi. The Eagles value him at £65million, and though Newcastle’s latest offer was in the region of £50million, talks are ongoing to reach an agreement.
Following a bright loan spell at Swansea in the 2020/21 season, the 24-year-old joined Palace from Chelsea three years ago in a deal said to be worth up to £20million. Given his potential, the Blues inserted both a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights clause, which would allow them to match any offer.
As there seems to be no indication of Chelsea moving for Guehi, the hope within Stamford Bridge will be that he completes a move to Newcastle. At the current £50million proposal, the Blues would pocket £20million but that windfall could increase with the two clubs currently £15million apart in their respectiv
e valuations.
