THE boss of Ferrari has described motor racing legend Michael Schumacher as an “emotional” driver more than four years since the gifted sportsman’s near-fatal skiing accident .

Updates on the F1 legend’s health have been scarce with his family choosing to maintain Schumacher’s privacy.

But Italian billionaire Piero Ferrari has spoken out on the driver.

 

Speaking to the Munich-based tabloid TZ, Mr Ferrari said: “Schumacher was incredibly precise.

“He took all the data home with him to analyse in peace”

 

He also said Schumacher was an “emotional driver”.

 

Discussing four time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, in the interview, the Ferrari boss added: “A true champion brings in his own qualities. And Lewis obviously has a lot of it.

 

“From the outside Hamilton looks extravagant, but in truth he is not so.”

In November, Schumacher’s wife Corinna Betsch told the press: “The decision to protect his privacy from the public has been taken in Michael’s interest.

Some reports suggest that Mr Schumacher has begun walking slowly again, but these reports have not been confirmed.

 

The F1 legend made his name with Benetton before joining Ferrari in 1996 has won a record seven titles and 91 races.

 

Ferrari paid tribute to Schumacher in January on the day that the world champion turned 49.

 

The Ferrari account said: “Today Michael turns 49, our thoughts are always with him. #Keepfighting #ForzaMichael.”

 

In 2009, Mr Ferrari dismissed suggestions that Schumacher was betraying Ferrari by making a Formula 1 comeback with Mercedes.
