Djokovic, having skipped several tournaments, including the Canadian Open, offers Alcaraz an opportunity to close the gap. If Alcaraz performs well in the Canadian Open and the Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati), he can accumulate significant points. Specifically, a deep run or title in either of these ATP Masters 1000 events would allow him to gain points where Djokovic has none to defend.
Additionally, Djokovic has points to defend from his US Open final appearance last year. Alcaraz, if he can maintain consistent performances and potentially win one of the lead-up tournaments, could surpass Djokovic’s total points.
Alcaraz’s youth and form, combined with Djokovic’s selective schedule, make this a realistic goal. Winning matches against top-tier opponents would not only increase his ranking points but also his confidence and momentum going into the US Open.
