Grass Valley, CA September 21, 2016 – The results from the 22nd Annual Barbara Schmidt Millar Celebration of Life Women’s Triathlon are in and the coveted title of first place was awarded to Nevada City local Michelle McIntosh after completing the .5 mile swim, eleven mile bike and 2.8 mile run in 1:11:33.

Second place was given to another Nevada City local, Marisha Finkler, and third place went to Zoey McLarty, formerly of Nevada City, Calif. For more race results, including times and rankings for triathlon relay teams and the 5k fun run/walk, visit www.bsmtri.org.

Held under sunny skies on September 18, the BSM Celebration of Life Women’s Triathlon hosted over 200 participants, including over 150 individual triathletes and relay teams looking to make their triumphant return to Scotts Flat Lake after wildfires forced the cancellation of the event in 2014 and an unprecedented drought caused the closure of the lake in 2015, which changed the event to a duathlon.

Photos from Sunday’s event can be viewed and purchased at www.bsmtri.org/bsmtrigallery. Proceeds will be generously donated back to the BSM fund courtesy of Lighthawk photo. Race participants, spectators and volunteers are also encouraged to share their pictures or videos on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #BSMTRI. Please make sure hashtagged Facebook posts and/or Instagram profiles are set to “public” in order to share.

Proceeds from the BSM Celebration of Life Triathlon will provide subsidized mammograms and additional preventative care for Breast Cancer to patients in need at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center. The event also raises the necessary funds to, once a year, award two to three local graduates of Nevada Union with scholarships to assist them in obtaining a degree in healthcare.
