The New South Wales Blues have been dealt a significant setback ahead of Game Two of the 2025 State of Origin series, as head coach Laurie Daley confirmed that vice-captain and star lock forward Isaah Yeo will miss the clash due to an ankle strain sustained during a training session earlier this week.
Yeo, who has been a cornerstone of the Blues’ forward pack in recent years, reportedly suffered the injury while making a defensive pivot in a high-intensity drill at the team’s training base in Perth. Initial assessments revealed a moderate strain in his left ankle, and medical staff later confirmed he would be unfit to take the field on Wednesday, June 18 at Optus Stadium.
Speaking to the media, Daley expressed disappointment but remained confident in the squad’s depth:
“Isaah is a massive part of our team — both in leadership and on-field presence. It’s a tough loss, but we won’t take any risks with his recovery. We have capable players ready to step up.”
Yeo’s absence opens the door for either Cameron Murray or Hudson Young to fill the No. 13 jersey, with Angus Crichton or Spencer Leniu likely to see more minutes from the interchange bench. Daley is expected to finalize the replacement in the coming 24 hours.
The Blues currently lead the series 1–0 after a dominant 18–6 win in Brisbane and were hoping to seal the series in Game Two. While Yeo’s injury is a blow to team balance and leadership, Daley insists the squad remains fully focused and united.
“Origin is about resilience — we’ll adapt and fight just as hard,” Daley concluded.
Game Two kicks off at 8:05 pm AEST on Wednesday.
