OBX’s Biggest Restaurant Engulfed in Devastating Fire Outbreak
A massive fire tore through the Outer Banks’ largest and most iconic restaurant late Saturday night, leaving behind a trail of devastation and sending shockwaves throughout the local community.
The popular open-air, thatched-roof establishment—renowned for its scenic ocean views, tropical ambiance, and island-style dining—was fully engulfed in flames shortly after 10:30 PM. Local fire departments responded swiftly to emergency calls, but the wooden structure and palm-frond roofing fueled a rapid and intense blaze.
“We’ve never seen anything escalate so quickly,” said Chief Bradley Moore of the OBX Fire Department. “The building was nearly consumed by the time our first unit arrived on scene. Despite our best efforts, the fire had too much of a head start.”
Thankfully, the restaurant had closed earlier in the evening, and no staff or patrons were reported injured. Firefighters worked throughout the night to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby vegetation and structures.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest a possible electrical fault near the kitchen or bar area, but officials have not ruled out other causes.
Locals and tourists alike are mourning the loss of a cherished OBX landmark. The restaurant, which had served thousands of guests every season, was known not only for its food and drinks but also as a gathering place for celebrations, weddings, and live music events.
“This place was the heart of our beach town,” said longtime resident Andrea Kelley. “It’s more than a restaurant. It’s where memories were made.”
The owners have vowed to rebuild, expressing deep gratitude to the firefighters and first responders, and promising to restore the beloved spot as soon as possible. A fundraiser to support rebuilding efforts is expected to launch in the coming days.
