In a deeply tragic and emotional moment for the Christian community, beloved pastor and author Dr. Tony Evans collapsed at his Dallas residence after receiving news of the unexpected death of his wife, Carla Crummie Evans, late Monday evening.
According to close family sources, Pastor Evans, 75, was at home preparing for a virtual ministry meeting when he received a phone call delivering the devastating news that his wife Carla had passed away following a sudden cardiac arrest while attending a private women’s ministry event in Houston.
Moments after hearing the news, Evans reportedly experienced severe palpitations and fainted. Family members immediately called emergency services. He was rushed to Baylor University Medical Center where doctors stabilized his condition, describing the episode as a stress-induced collapse triggered by emotional trauma.
“This is an unspeakable heartbreak for our family,” said Priscilla Shirer, one of Pastor Evans’ daughters, in a brief statement. “We are holding onto God’s promises even in our grief.”
Carla Crummie, a grief and life coach, married Pastor Evans in late 2023, following years of friendship and shared ministry vision. Their union was celebrated by many, especially after Evans had walked through the painful loss of his first wife, Lois, in 2019.
Tributes have since poured in from across the country. Leaders from churches, organizations, and ministries have expressed their sorrow and support. “Tony Evans has ministered to millions,” said Bishop T.D. Jakes. “Now it’s time for the church to minister to him.”
The Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship has asked for prayers and privacy for the Evans family as they navigate this profound loss. Details about memorial services for Carla Crummie Evans are expected to be released later this week.
