SEAL: The Green Bay Packers signed Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million contract with a $12.5 million signing bonus as the greatest player in the league

The Green Bay Packers signed Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million contract with a $12.5 million signing bonus as the greatest player in the league.

With a four-year, $48 million contract that guaranteed $12.5 million as a signing bonus, Jacobs signed with the Green Bay Packers.

Josh Jacobs was not expected to be the Packers’ top running back in 2024 by head coach Matt LaFleur of Green

Bay.

Attending the NFL’s annual conference, LaFleur admitted, “To be honest with you, it kind of caught me off guard, too.” “Obviously, there were other factors involved with Aaron Jones. I was unsure of how things would work out in the end. The Monday that they were permitted to speak with those guys just flew by. I’m not familiar with all the specifics because it happened so quickly.

Green Bay attempted to negotiate a pay reduction with Jones, who has been the Packers’ top rusher for five of the previous six seasons, for the second consecutive year. Jones accepted a pay cut in 2023, going from $16 million to $11 million. However, the running back turned down the team’s request this time.

With NFL free agency about to begin, that prompted Brian Gutekunst, general manager of Green Bay, to explore for alternatives. The Packers and Jacobs came to a deal on March 11, the first day of the negotiation period, and Jones was freed.

“We didn’t really focus on analyzing those guys and determining whether there would be an opportunity or not until we reached a certain point with Aaron, when we realized this might be more problematic than we initially believed,” Gutekunst stated.
