DCL vows to bring more ‘special moments’ for Blues

Enjoying the best season of his career so far with 15 goals to date, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has vowed to create more “special moments” for Evertonians.

Speaking on the club’s website, the Sheffield-born striker said:

“The Everton supporters have given me some special, special moments.

“Some of those experiences the fans have given me over the past four years since I joined the club have been some of the best of my life.

“The feedback from the fans – I am well aware a tackle can lift them when things are getting tough at home, not only scoring goals – has given me some amazing memories.

“Every time I am on the pitch I try to give my best. Not only for the fans but for my own pride and respect.

“If someone can say you are not giving your best or trying hard enough, it is the biggest disrespect you can receive.

“For me, to give my all is the bare minimum of what I can do.”

Niasse struggling to find a new club

Oumar Niasse’s eventful but disappointing time at Everton will finally come to a close at the end of the current season – even that has been extended – but it seems that even on a Bosman-style free transfer, the striker is struggling to find a new club.

Turkish publication Star – via Sport Witness – say that Niasse has been offered to Besiktas but the Istanbul club’s manager Sergen Yalcin has rejected the chance to sign the Senegalese international.

Niasse, who joined Everton for £13.5million on February 1, 2016, has had subsequent loan spells at Hull City and Cardiff City – failing to save either side from relegation – and has played just 19 minutes of Premier League football for the Blues so far this term.

We’ve got an article on some of Everton’s hardest-ever players coming up later this afternoon but in the meantime, Theo Walcott has been lifting the lid on who is the hardest at Finch Farm these days (shot-wise!)

In an article published on the club’s website he says:

Probably Lucas [Digne]. He loves to shoot from anywhere at times! You can see the power he has from the great goals he has scored for us.

Meanwhile, when it comes to his best friends in football, the former Arsenal man is close to two of his Blues team-mates in particular.

He said:

Michael [Keane] and Andre [Gomes]. Michael and I play golf together when we can and Andre and I get on really well. Him and his partner and myself and my wife socialise together.

English football to return on June 6 if government can assure safety of matches

The EFL are planning to return to action on June 6 in order to complete the 2019/20 season and ensure the financial future of many lower league clubs report the Mirror.

Football around the globe remains on lockdown amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but there is a growing desire to return to action as soon as it is safely possible in order to ensure that clubs don’t go bankrupt.

An emergency fund of £50million has been set up in order to help struggling Championship, League One and League Two sides, while Premier League clubs are also feeling the strain during the lack of action.

The top-flight could also resume on the same weekend as the lower leagues, with all matches taking place behind closed doors.

Eto’o on why he ‘immediately fell in love with Everton’

Everton’s new signing Samuel Eto’o at Finch Farm in 2014

The Everton website have published a rather intriguing interview with former Blues striker Samuel Eto’o.

Given what he had previously achieved in the game, the Cameroonian could lay claim to being the most high-profile player in the club’s history but he had a ‘blink and you’d missed it’ spell at Goodison Park.

Despite featuring in 20 matches in half a season – not bad going considering Romelu Lukaku was the main striker at the time – Eto’o upped sticks for Sampdoria in January 2015.

However, the signing who Roberto Martinez once described as “a gift from the footballing gods”, claims that he holds the Blues in great affection.

Eto’o said:

“Honestly, signing for Everton was one of the best decisions I’ve ever taken.

“I had other offers, I spoke with Liverpool and other teams had been talking with me.

“But when I spoke with the Everton manager [Roberto Martinez], everything changed, and I didn’t look at any of the other offers I had.

“When I met him, I immediately fell in love with Everton. I was excited by his plans for the club and his ideas on the game… that is what took me to Everton.”

… a shame he had to leave so soon then!

Ancelotti has come to Blues for glory not money says Donovan

Everton unveil new signing Landon Donovan in January 2010

Landon Donovan was a popular figure at Everton during his two loan spells at the club and he believes that Carlo Ancelotti has joined the Blues to try and steer them to glory rather than for the money.

The former USA international told the Athletic – via Inside Futbol:

“The way the club was structured at the time I was there was perfect for what they were. They had a chip on their shoulder; Moyes had to spend wisely.

“But now with Ancelotti? It’s crazy. I played in a charity match at Old Trafford a few years back and Carlo was the manager for the game. I would never have expected him to end up at Everton back then.

“He knows how to get the best out of players and I think he genuinely has come to Everton to do a good job. His reputation is worth more than any pay cheque.

“He’s made plenty of money, right?”

Everton ‘target’ Grealish backed to live up to expectation

Jack Grealish of Aston Villa(Image: Paul Harding/Getty Images)

Danny Mills has backed Everton target Jack Grealish to live up to expectation if he agrees to a move away from Aston Villa this summer write Football Insider.

The website, that claimed the Blues interest in the 24-year-old, spoke to former England international Danny Mills, who said:

“It is big fish small pond mentality. Some players like being the centre of attention and like to be the most important player at a football club. They want all of the media attention and plaudits.

“Maybe that is what we saw with Zaha at Manchester United. It did not quite work out. You have to be a certain type of player to take it on mentally.

“I am sure Grealish could do that. It looks like he has all of the whys and wherefores and the ability to do it. He has carried Aston Villa an awful lot this season.

“On the surface, it would not be a huge issue or problem. It is how you deal with the sort of pressure that comes with great expectation.”

NHS Evertonian fundraiser

Evertonian Colin Morris is planning an NHS fundraiser for Blues.

He writes:

Calling all Evertonians. In these dark times I’m asking all my fellow Blues to come together and help me start something special. Something which will hopefully help shine a light during and after these dark times.

I’m suggesting raising funds via various fundraisers during lockdown and after lockdown which could help our local NHS and its staff, charities, communities and many more.

We are in the process of putting together a sponsored NHS fancy dress Evertonians pub crawl which will take place when the lockdown is lifted and finish at Goodison Park during Everton’s first home game fans are allowed to attend.

Blues, fancy dress, banners and Goodison.. it could be special .. but if that isn‘t your thing why not come up with your own idea during lockdown and play a part.

We could do something special here. please join us and help us do what Evertonians do best .
