Indiana Coach Livid Over ‘Unacceptable’ Cheap Shot on Caitlin Clark Despite Win The Next
Bloomington, IN – Indiana women’s basketball coach, Teri Moren, expressed her outrage over an ‘unacceptable’ cheap shot on Iowa star Caitlin Clark during Sunday’s highly anticipated game. Despite Indiana’s 72-65 victory, Moren’s post-game comments focused on the incident that saw Clark take a hard hit from an Indiana player late in the fourth quarter.
“This kind of play has no place in our game,” Moren stated emphatically. “We pride ourselves on playing tough but fair basketball. What happened to Caitlin was neither tough nor fair—it was dangerous and unacceptable.”
The incident occurred with just under three minutes left in the game, as Clark attempted a fast break. The Indiana player involved received a technical foul, but the punishment did little to assuage the concerns of both coaching staffs and fans alike.
Clark, who is a leading figure in college basketball, was able to continue playing after the hit but showed visible signs of discomfort. Iowa’s coach, Lisa Bluder, shared Moren’s sentiments, calling for stricter enforcement of safety protocols.
“We need to protect our players. This kind of behavior must be addressed decisively to ensure it’s not repeated,” Bluder asserted.
The Big Ten Conference is expected to review the incident. Meanwhile, Moren has assured that disciplinary action will be taken within the Indiana program.
