After agreeing to a contract extension, Kirby Smart of Georgia became the highest-paid college football head coach, earning $13 million annually..

Kirby Smart of Georgia is now the highest paid football coach in the nation.

The Bulldogs and Smart reached an agreement to extend their contract, which will take effect in 2024, the organization said on Thursday. His new contract is said to pay him $13 million in 2024 and last until the 2033 campaign.

 

With the new contract, Smart will overtake Dabo Swinney of Clemson to become the highest-paid football coach in the country. In 2024, Swinney will earn $11 million..

The two-year extension will increase Smart’s average annual salary by $1.75 million compared to his previous contract. The extension also increases his maximum bonus from $1.3 million to $1.5 million. Smart’s new deal replaces the 10-year, $110 million extension he signed in 2022 following his first national title.

 

Smart has posted a career record of 94-16 record at Georgia, including a 56-9 mark in the SEC. Georgia has reached the national championship game three times, winning two under Smart.
