In the fourth inning of Sunday night’s game, Texas Rangers’ Evan Carter smashes a solo home run off Atlanta Braves pitcher Darius Vines.
ATLANTA — The Texas Rangers defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on Sunday night, avoiding a three-game sweep thanks to three home runs from Andrew Knizner and two more from Adolis García.
Evan Carter, a former star player at Elizabethton High School, also went deep as the defending World Series winners overcame an early 3-0 deficit to end Atlanta’s six-game winning run. After a rough start, Michael Lorenzen (2-0) turned in six innings while giving up three hits and three runs while striking out seven batters.
Carter also made two diving catches in left field in addition to an infield single.
With three home runs and seven RBIs, his slash line is.211/.321/.408.
Kirby Yates recorded four outs for his third save while David Robertson relieved him for one and a half innings.
“The home run was a great way to get us ahead, but the rest of the game is all about pitching and execution with that lineup,” said Knizner. “Yates, Robertson, and Lorenzen really performed a fantastic job. For us, those are the ones that held it down..
