Abdoulaye Doucoure, who survived the relegation battle, provides the Everton team a reality check

After his game-winning goal kept Everton from Premier League relegation, Abdoulaye Doucoure feels he doesn’t deserve to be referred regarded as a “hero” for the club.

In their final game of the season, Everton defeated Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to a goal from Doucoure in the second half, securing their place in the Premier League for another year. The midfield player challenged his teammates to improve for the upcoming campaign, but he was in no mood to claim the mantle of his team’s savior.

Don’t overthink things. I’m not a champion. “There is no one present,” he told BBC Sport. “Everton Football Club is where we play and work. That can’t be who we must be. We must acknowledge the errors we committed this season. Everyone played with heart toward the end, but we need to return stronger and elevate Everton for the upcoming season.”

“It was a huge game for us,” he continued. We are overjoyed. It’s challenging to express how we feel. All season, we battled to compete and keep the team alive. We gave it our all this afternoon. even though it wasn’t our finest game, we still gave it our all and won.”
