Carlos Alcaraz says why he got ‘angry’ during his US Open warm-up match against Francisco Cerundolo

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the favourites to win the whole thing in New York this week, although he will certainly receive some pushback from a whole host of stars.

Jannik Sinner is coming off the back of an intense past week, laden with controversy regarding the successful appeal of a guilty verdict for taking steroids. He certainly has a fresh point to prove.

Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, is seeking to hit his next big milestone, and will be further motivated as another piece of history awaits him.

If Carlos Alcaraz is to compete with these two fired-up rivals, he will have to be at his absolute best.

So, a pre-tournament injury ahead of the US Open will hardly have aided his preparation, and his chances of claiming the title just as he did in 2022.

Carlos Alcaraz gets angry in US Open practice

Speaking to reporters after his US Open warm-up match, Alcaraz cut a frustrated figure, after his practice was cut short as he seemingly rolled his ankle.

Having injured that very same ankle earlier in the year in Rio, forcing him to retire early from that competition, fears are justified given how much more important this event is.

The Spaniard claimed: ‘I wasn’t worried for my US Open participation. I was angry because I don’t want to stop the practice, just to respect Cerundolo as well. For me I don’t want to stop any practice, I want to practice and get better and get ready for the tournament but I wasn’t worried about that [missing the tournament]. I’m sure tomorrow or in two days I am going to be at 100%.’

Carlos Alcaraz needs to bounce back from Cincinnati Open disappointment
