Arsenal make Aaron Ramsdale transfer call as Newcastle consider De Gea move

Arsenal are reportedly keen to keep hold of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale amid speculation over his future at the club ahead of the January transfer window. The England international has found himself behind David Raya in the pecking order in recent months, playing just one Premier League match in the last three months – a game that the Spaniard was ineligible for.

Since then, the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all been linked with a move for Ramsdale, although the Gunners won’t entertain a winter exit, according to transfer guru Ben Jacobs. “I’m told that if Arsenal have their way, they would still like to keep Ramsdale until the end of the season for depth, and because, despite Raya being the no 1, they just don’t see a great deal between the 2 goalkeepers,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“So, they believe that Ramsdale has all the qualities to play and step in when needed, whether that’s a congested fixture calendar, an injury, or a drop in form to Raya.” With Newcastle losing first-choice ‘keeper Nick Pope to injury over the weekend, the Magpies have also been mooted as a potential destination for Ramsdale.

But The Daily Mail have reported that Eddie Howe’s side will move for a free agent in the form of David de Gea instead. De Gea left Manchester United over the summer, ending a 12-year stay at Old Trafford that saw the Spaniard win a Premier League title, an FA Cup, a Europa League and two EFL

Cups.
