In Green Bay, the David Bakhtiari era is done.

 

The former Pro Bowl left tackle was released by the Packers on Monday, and with it, Green Bay will have an additional $21 million in salary cap space. It’s uncertain if Bakhtiari will attempt playing somewhere else or retire.

 

A fourth-round draft choice in 2013, Bakhtiari missed 13 of the previous 57 games and only appeared in one game in 2023 following a horrific knee injury late in the 2020 campaign. With a dead cap hit of $19.06 million and a salary of $39.99 million in 2024, Bakhtiari cost the Packers $20.93 million in salary cap space.

This has a lot of emotion. “I would like to express my gratitude to Green Bay,” Bakhtiari posted on X (formerly Twitter). “I appreciate the past 11 years with you. It’s been an incredible journey. I would never complain, but I have always wanted to raise a Lombardi on Lombardi Avenue. I put everything into it. No matter what, I always gave it my all, and for me, that was plenty.
