Dyche makes clear his thoughts on Calvert-Lewin form ahead of Man Utd clash
Sean Dyche is confident Dominic Calvert-Lewin will turn his goalscoring misfortunes around.
After shaking off his injury worries, the Everton forward started the season well, scoring four times in his first eight appearances. However, after finding the back of the net at West Ham in October, Calvert-Lewin has since struggled for form, going a mammoth 21 matches without scoring.
Amid his difficult run of form, Calvert-Lewin dropped to the bench for their reverse against West Ham last weekend, with his replacement, Beto, scoring and impressing while leading the line. The England international came on for the final few minutes at Goodison Park but failed to make an impact.
Ahead of Everton’s trip to Manchester United on Saturday, Dyche was asked about Calvert-Lewin’s dismal run of scoring form and provided a solution to how he might fix it. “It’s finding the moment, taking the moment, and he’s well aware of that,” Dyche said. “No striker has forgotten their record.
“I certainly don’t mention it to him. I just want him to work hard, I want him to play for the team, I want him to get in the right areas. I know the quality he’s got, I know his aerial power, I know he can finish and different types of finishes. And it’ll come.
“It’s believing in what we do, believing in himself and continuing to do the right things. Sometimes you need one that comes off your shin but sometimes you can make it come off your shin by just being alert and alive to things that are bouncing around the box.”
A lack of goals has been Everton’s main Achilles heal, with the Toffees managing just 29 in 27 matches this season. Only Sheffield United and Burnley have struck fewer in the P
remier League.
